Yam (suran in hindi) is high on potassium ,vitamin B6 and dietary fibre. It also has a low glycemic index as compared to potatoes. Low glycemic index indicates making you feel fuller for a longer period of time. So this time , I decided to substitute it for potatoes and make the tikkis (cutlets).
Time taken: 20-25 minutes
Makes: 12 tikkis
Ingredients:
- 2 cups boiled yam
- Bread crumbs
- Chopped coriander
- 1 tablespoon Green chilli and ginger paste
- 1 teaspoon Garam masala
- 1 teaspoon pakora masala
- 2 tablespoons powdered peanut
- Salt
- Oil

Now add the coriander, green chilli and ginger paste, garam masala, pakora masala and salt.
Mix well and make flat round discs out of this mixture. Dust the flat discs with some powdered peanut. Alternatively, you may also dust them with all purpose flour or maida or corn flour.
Shallow fry them on a griddle till brown on both sides.
