- 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon urad dal ( split black gram)
- 2 red chillies
- 3 green chillies
- 1/4 teaspoon asafetida
- 5-6 curry leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 4 medium tomatoes
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon oil
Heat oil in a kadai/ wok and add the mustard seeds.
When the seeds start spluttering add the urad dal and keep stirring till they turn golden.
Add the green chillies, red chillies, curry leaves and asafetida in quick succession.
Add the tomatoes, turmeric powder, salt and sugar and cook well till the tomatoes are done, stirring frequently.
Switch off the gas and let this mixture cool.
Grind the cooled mixture into a smooth paste and enjoy with idli or dosas!
