Oats upma

I was searching for a tasty and healthy quick fix for breakfast. Oatmeal was the obvious choice but I wanted to avoid the milk and the sugar. So I decided to make a spicier upma version of it which my aunt had mentioned long ago.Once I made it then there was no looking back and I have this almost every other day.
Preparation time: 15 minutes
  • 1 cup instant oats
  • 4 tablespoons curd
  • 2 cups water
  • Lime juice
  • Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Oil
For the tempering:
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon urad dal
  • 1 pinch asafetida
  • 2 small green chillies
  • 1 red chilli
  • 3-4 curry leaves
Blend the water, lime juice, curds and salt in a mixer or hand blender. Keep this liquid aside.
Now heat oil in a saucepan and add the mustard seeds & urad dal. Once the seeds start spluttering, toss in the green chillies, red chillies, curry leaves and asafetida.
Now add the liquid mixture.
Add the oats when the liquid starts boiling and stir it well. Turn of the gas when the mixture is thickened and blended well. That’s the beginning of a yummy and healthy day!
