Crispy Baked Tofu
Crispy baked tofu is prepared by baking tofu battered in corn starch and spices. It is crisp on the outside and pillowy on the inside. I’m sure if you try this recipe once you will keep coming back for more.This is suitable for vegetarians and vegans, so that is a big plus. Crispy Baked tofu (watch video) is a very regularly featured dish at my place.

I wasn’t a big fan of tofu until I met this version. This is so delicious and crispy, you can have it as a snack or as a starter for parties and gatherings. If you are looking for a light dinner, couple this with either the Pineapple kale cucumber drink or the Watermelon cooler and you are all set.

A lot of times people ask is tofu vegan?

Often tofu is fermented in either a shrimp brine or fermented dairy milk. But vegan tofu which is fermented in compliant milk is definitely available in the market. Just keep an eye on the labels while purchasing tofu if you are specifically a vegan or vegetarian.

Here is how I prepare crispy baked tofu (watch the quick video here)-
Ingredients:

• 1 block (approximately 12 oz) Extra firm tofu
• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 2 heaped Tablespoons cornstarch
• 1 Teaspoons Italian garlic and herb
• 1 teaspoon red chilly powder
• 1/4 teaspoon pepper
• 1/4 teaspoon tandoori spice mix
• salt as per taste
• Scallion leaves for garnish

Method:

  1. Drain the water from tofu and dry with paper towels. This step is very important to ensure the tofu doesn’t get soggy and infuses all the flavors from the spices and seasoning. Cut the tofu into cubes.
  2. Combine olive oil, corn starch, Italian garlic/ herb, tandoori spice,red chilly powder, pepper and salt.
  3. Lightly grease a baking tray with oil spray. Dip the tofu in the mixture and then lay on a baking tray.
  4. Bake on 400 degrees for 25 minutes.
  5. Garnish with scallion leaves and enjoy with any dip or as it is!

Note:The level of spices is high in his recipe. You can reduce or skip chilly powder completely to tone down the level of spice.
