Coconut chutney is a classic choice with idlis and dosas. There are various type of preparations for the coconut chutney. Today, I have prepared the most basic and simple versions of the coconut chutney but tastes out of the world!
Ingredients:
For the chutney
- 2 cups fresh grated coconut
- 2 green chillies
- 1 tablespoon grated ginger
- 3-4 curry leaves
- 2 tablespoons chutney dal
- a small piece of tamarind ( nail size)
- salt
For the tempering:

- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- a pinch of asafetida
- oil
Method:
Combine all the ingredients for the chutney in a mixer/ blender and grind to a smooth paste adding water as required.
Heat 1 teaspoon oil and add the mustard seeds and asafetida. Add this tempering to the chutney.
Serve with idlis or dosas.
