Chocolate is a major weakness and I desperately crave for it if I don’t get it atleast once a week. Now you might be thinking that it’s too much of an ask. But, from the time my Chocolate cake with chocolate ganache got over, I have been experiencing ” the chocolate yearning syndrome”!
I had a couple of disgusting looking overripe bananas on the countertop and a bag of chocolate chips. Yippy..the devil in my mind had already started planning about banana bread..ofcourse with chocolate chips and I wouldn’t mind the goodness of chopped walnuts to go alongwith it. So here it is…

Ingredients:
- 1-1/2 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 overripe bananas
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup walnuts
- 1/2 cup bitter sweet or semi sweet chocolate chips
- 1 pinch salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
Preheat oven at 350 degrees.
Combine the sour cream and olive oil and stir them together nicely using a blender. Keep this liquid aside.
Combine the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder and baking soda in a mixing bowl. I personally love this brand of whole wheat flour from amazon Hard Red Spring Whole Wheat Flour • Bread Flour • Non-GMO • 3 LBS • 100% Non-Irradiated • Kosher • USA Grown • Field Traced • Resealable Kraft Bag. It is specially for baking breads and the final texture and outcome is incredible from it.
Mash the banana and add it to the dry ingredients.
Slowly pour the liquid and the vanilla essence and fold it nicely with the dry ingredients till it forms a smooth paste.
Add the walnuts and chocolate chips.
Grease a bread pan and pour the in the mixture into it.
Bake in the preheated oven for an 40-45 minutes or until a tester inserted comes out clean.
Well here is the complete loaf…
Can’t wait to have them…

I totally sympathize with you, I'm a chocolate addict. Seriously! I eat tons of it every day, otherwise I get the shakes 🙂

Hey Kavitha 🙂 I tried this banana chocolate chip walnut bread. It is soooo good 🙂 I used non fat greek yogurt instead of sour cream and it turned out good. Thanks for your healthy low fat vegan bread 🙂
yours is the best recipe I came across, I substituted sour cream with some yogurt and skipped chocolate chips altogether since I did not have at home.
